Vote Online this Elections!!

Dear Members,

Greetings from SWA.

As you are aware, our General Elections are scheduled on 16th Oct 2016. Reports on this have already been sent to you, which you must have received by now.

It was a popular demand to introduce online voting for our elections because more than half of our members who can’t come physically to vote remain deprived of their franchise. Almost all of those staying outside Mumbai or in distant suburbs / downtown also find it tough to cast their votes physically.

And as we all know most corporates, societies, clubs and certain Governments too, are using online voting for their elections.

Here’s a glimpse of the World of Online Elections..

More than 25 Countries including the USA, UK, Australia, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Finland have used electronic voting for their public elections. More than 1800 companies (Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, MRF, Kurlon, Essar, Maharashtra Corporation, etc.) have used electronic voting for their elections, or passing resolutions. Besides this sports/recreation clubs (eg. Country Club), housing societies and even labour unions and associations around the World are going in for Online Elections.

So the EC of the SWA had deliberated on the idea and proposed it during the Constitution Amendment AGM of July 2016 where the resolution was passed by majority.

Close on lines of that, the EC arranged a demonstration of Online Voting in the Meeting held on 24th Sept 2016 at SWA office; where ‘Online Voting’ for the upcoming elections was approved by the majority.

So we are pleased to inform our members that now almost all of you can vote without bothering for the logistical hassles.

BUT THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A MEMBER’S CHOICE IF S/HE WANTS TO VOTE ONLINE OR COME IN PERSON TO THE VENUE/BOOTH. There is no compulsion on anybody to follow only a certain method.

Those who want to vote personally may skip reading this article further. Unless you opt for online voting, you will not be considered for it. By default all members will be taken as ‘Manual Voters’ using ballot papers at the Booths.

However those of you who wish to opt for online voting are requested to read on carefully, understand and cooperate with us in introducing this system for the upcoming elections.

Please don’t worry for the confidentiality of your vote and security. We will be using neutral portals/companies (mostly overseas) to host our elections, which are professionally doing so for dozens of other clients.

Also the security of the system will ensure there is no duplication of votes. Those who opt for Online Voting will not be entertained at the booths and those who don’t opt for online voting will not be provided access to online voting; come what may.

Members who want to vote online for this election are required to register their choice on our website till 14th Oct 2016. Here’s the procedure to Register for Online Voting.

We will provide a Demo and also post a video/tutorial on the website to explain how to vote online. To keep yourself updated with the process, kindly note the followings and please cooperate accordingly.

  1. Please keep checking our website, office notice board, all mails and emails from SWA. Those who haven’t added our email id to their contacts-list kindly do that at the earliest because we have noticed many of our emails bounce from the given ids. Those who have changed their email ids, please get it updated in our database asap.
  2. Kindly create your account on our website if it is not already there. If it is, please make a habit to login at least once a month. As we have very short time available to make arrangements, Online Voter registrations will be done on the website. Therefore, we once again request you to activate your login and provide complete information required as per our database.
  3. We will inform you of the further steps as and when required mostly through our website and if possible through emails..kindly follow them timely and oblige.
  4. So watch out for our further communication by mail and on website regarding Online Voting.
